What does Taanit Esther & Purim have to do with the Golden Calf, Shofar, Para Aduma, Kohein Gadol... and a kid with a box of crayons? It is no accident that Purim precedes Pesach by exactly one month, nor that Pesach follows Purim by exactly that same amount of time. And why is it that Jews in Jerusalem begin their Purim when the rest of the Jews in Israel and around the world have either finished theirs or are about to?
