R. Kook on Moving To Egypt and on Making Sure Animals are Halal (16 Tevet)
R. Kook takes on two questions of how we relate to non-Jews:
- שו"ת משפט כהן (ענייני ארץ ישראל) קמה 16 Tevet 5678 (1917) R. Kook's examination of whether there are conditions under which we would be allowed to move back to Egypt leads him to discuss many other issues, like monarchy as opposed to other forms of government, how communities construct themselves, and how and whether they serve as bulwarks against negative influences.
- שו"ת דעת כהן (ענייני יורה דעה) י 16 Tevet 5685 (1925) R' Kook deals with practices that Muslims want Jews to use while slaughtering meat (in case the Muslims then are asked to buy that meat, since it turns out not to be kosher). Can Jews act in ways that render meat halal, such as by saying "Allahu akbar" before performing the shechita?
